Essential oils for PMT

In this post, you'll learn how to use essential oils for PMT. The recipe is one that I, and my students, have used countless times and it works astonishingly quickly for pain and heavy bleeding. One of the oils in particular is also great for the fatigue we often feel during a period.

PMT can be painful and stressful

We all know how draining PMT (premenstrual tension) can be. The exhaustion, mood swings, and pain can disrupt your daily life, make you take time off work and even affect your relationships.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. I wish I'd know about the recipe I'm about to share with you when I was in my teens and twenties.

Mary Anne had horrendous PMT symptoms

Mary Anne suffered from severe PMT symptoms—bloating, mood swings, excruciating pain, skin eruptions and exhaustion. For two days each month, she couldn't do anything, this had a big effect on her family. Her boss also was not happy, and Mary Anne was certain it was having an impact on her promotion prospects.

Essential Oils for PMT - the recipe

I created an essential oil blend to help with all of Mary Anne's symptoms and with the underlying cause. This became my go-to blend for PMT, and my clients and friends had wonderful results with it.

  • Geranium: Helps balance hormones, balances the production of sebum by the skin, reduces bloating and lifts the mood.
  • Cypress: Another wonderful hormone balancer, a painkiller, and it reduces excess bleeding.
  • Lemon: A lovely, "happy" oil which reduces excess bleeding, lifts the mood and is anti-anaemic.

You will need:-

  • Geranium: 2 drops
  • Cypress: 3 drops
  • Lemon: 3 drops
  • 10ml each of Sweet Almond Oil and Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

The essential oil for fatigue

Continuous bleeding, particularly heave bleeding, is exhausting. As one of my bright spark students put it:- "If you were a man, they'd be worried about you!" If you've ever suffered from PMT and taken conventional painkillers, you might have noticed that the pain might ease, but you still feel exhausted.

Lemon essential oil with its anti-anaemic properties is wonderful for fatigue during a period. Many women, unknown to themselves, become anaemic during their period because of the blood loss.

How to Make the Blend

Easy peasy! Add the essential oils to the Sweet Almond and Extra Virgin Olive Oil and keep the mixture in a dark glass bottle.

Shelf Life

The blend will last at least 3 months, as long as the bottle is stored away from light and heat with the lid fully closed.

To Use the Blend

Apply a small amount of the blend to the lower abdomen and massage gently.

Using the essential oils in an inhaler will also help, both with the mood and the physical symptoms.

Reflexology Tip:- Rub the blend on the foot, particularly around the ankle and the heel. This is where the reflexes and acupoints for the reproductive system are.

Contraindications

Don't use Geranium or Cypress essential oils for pregnant women

Don't use Lemon essential oil within 48 hours of going out in bright sunlight or using a sunbed.

Surprising results

Mary Anne came once a week for a month, then reduced her treatments to once a fortnight then to once a month.

Two weeks after her first treatment, she got her period. For the first time in years, she didn't need to take time off work. Her pain was very manageable, she used the blend on her abdomen and it was a big help. She was a bit cranky, but nothing like she usually was.

When she got her next period, she had no pain, no mood swings, no bloating, no fatigue, no skin eruptions.

She continued to come for maintenance treatments once a month for several years and didn't suffer from PMT again.
