Benzoin essential oil uses for the skin
Benzoin essential oil is excellent for dry or chapped skin, and for ageing skin.
Just add 2 drops per teaspoon to your normal moisturiser (non-scented if possible)
If you’re using it for children between the ages of one year and twelve years old, use one drop of Benzoin essential oil to a teaspoon of moisturiser.
Benzoin Lip Balm
Benzoin is lovely to include in a lip balm. My lips used to get very chapped, to the point where they bleed. The first time I used Benzoin lip balm, they healed very quickly. Since then, I use it during the winter, and I have never had chapped lips since.
Here’s a quick, easy and very effective recipe for Benzoin lip balm.
Lip Balm Ingredients
1 teaspoon of coconut oil
2 drops of Benzoin essential oil.
Which coconut oil is best?
If possible, use extra virgin, cold pressed, non-fractionated coconut oil. Non fractionated oil is solid but becomes liquid at room temperature. It’s very nourishing for the skin, it’s great for all kinds of infection and rich in other properties too.
The best place to get extra virgin, cold pressed, non-fractionated coconut oil is your local supermarket. You can get coconut oil in health food stores, but it’s usually not extra virgin, cold pressed or non-fractionated (solid) so it doesn’t have many therapeutic properties at all. And it’s usually a lot more expensive than the coconut oil you can get in your supermarket.
And if you’re thinking that it would a bit weird to buy oil for a beauty product in a supermarket, remember that when you use something on your skin, some of it will be absorbed into the body. If it's safe to eat, it's safe to use on your skin.
To make the lip balm
1. Melt the coconut oil. Don’t use a microwave or a cooker, as heat can destroy some of the therapeutic properties and make the lip balm less effective.
Instead, put a teaspoon of coconut oil into a small container, a cup, and put that into a large bowl of water, making sure that the water doesn’t cover the top of the cup/container and mix with the oil. Leave it to sit until the coconut oil has melted.
2. Pour the melted coconut oil into a dark glass or a ceramic jar, using a small measuring jug if possible, as the oil will be hot. We use dark glass or ceramic containers to protect the essential oil from light or heat, as exposure can cause essential oils to degrade or spoil.
3. Add 2 drops of benzoin essential oil.
This quantity is for anyone who is over twelve, who is not pregnant, and who doesn't have sensitive skin.
For children between the ages of one and twelve, for anyone who is pregnant or does have sensitive skin, you would use one drop of essential oil for every teaspoon of coconut oil.
I have never had chapped lips since I started using balm. The lip balm is absolutely beautiful, very cheap to make and, 100% natural.
Benzoin essential oil uses for respiratory conditions.
Benzoin is outstanding for respiratory infections including coughs, cold, flu, etc.
There are a couple of ways to use it: -

Benzoin essential oil uses for anxiety and stress
Benzoin is wonderful for anxiety and stress. It is warming, nurturing, and calming. Try combining it with a citrus oil, for instance grapefruit or orange, which lift the spirits. The aroma is beautiful.
Add 10 drops of Benzoin essential oil and 10 drops of Grapefruit or Orange essential oils to an aromatherapy inhaler and use as required.
Put a drop of Benzoin essential oil and a drop of Grapefruit or Orange essential oil on to a tissue and inhale as required.
Add one drop of Benzoin essential oil and one drop of Grapefruit or Orange essential oil to 5 ml (1 teaspoon) of a natural vegetable oil or milk, add to a warm bath and soak for 20 minutes if possible.
Benzoin essential oil is a wonderful painkiller.
I was teaching an aromatherapy class, and one of the girls in the class had arthritis, and during the class we were talking about Benzoin among other things.
The following week, she came to class and said, “You're right, Benzoin is absolutely great for pain. I used this mixed with extra virgin olive oil and just rubbed it on my sore knees and I couldn't believe the difference”.
I was puzzled, I had never said that Benzoin was a painkiller. Off I went to do some research, and I could find no mention of Benzoin being a painkiller.
But Benzoin is listed everywhere as warming. Which means that it makes the circulation more efficient, which in turn, carries away waste products and delivers nutrients around the body, particularly to areas that need it. So of course it will ease pain. Duh.
I’ve used Benzoin essential oil for pain and recommended ever since, and I’ve seen some great results.
Benzoin essential oil - gentle, powerful, easy to use and effective.
