The Story Behind Castor Oil: Edgar Cayce & the "Miracle Oil"

Who Was Edgar Cayce?

Edgar Cayce was one of the most famous psychics of the 20th century, often referred to as the Sleeping Prophet. He had an incredible ability to enter a trance state and give medical readings and healing recommendations for people—whether they were present or on the other side of the world.

Many of his recommendations involved natural remedies, and one of the most famous was castor oil packs. Cayce believed that castor oil had powerful healing properties, particularly for detoxifying the body, reducing inflammation, and stimulating the lymphatic system. He called Castor Oil "the Miracle Oil"

The medical profession of his time largely dismissed his work, but those who followed his advice had remarkable improvements.

  1. Soak a piece of absorbent material, e.g. a flannel or cotton cloth in castor oil.

  2. Place it over the affected area (commonly used on the abdomen or joints).

  3. Cover it with plastic wrap to prevent staining.

  4. Put a hot water bottle over the pack.

  5. Leave it on for 30-60 minutes.

This practice boosts the lymphatic system, eliminate toxins, eases pain and promotes deep healing.

How Castor Oil Helped PCOS and sciatica

1. PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome)

One of my students, a qualified herbalist, was diagnosed with PCOS. Doctors recommended surgery, but she wanted to try a natural remedy first.

She used daily castor oil packs for two weeks, and when she returned for a consultation, her PCOS had completely cleared! Of course this is no guarantee everyone with PCOS will get the same result, it shows the power and potential of castor oil.

2. Sciatica

A woman on a long-haul flight suffered a sciatica flare-up. Upon arriving at her destination, she applied castor oil to her lower back and leg and covered it with a towel overnight. The next morning, her sciatica pain had completely disappeared.
