The therapeutic benefits of avocado oil.

  • It's nourishing and hydrating for the skin and very rich in vitamin A, D, E, and essential fatty acids.

  • It's particularly good for dry or mature skin.

  • Because It's anti-inflammatory, it helps eczema, acne, and other irritated conditions.

  • It protects and repairs the skin barrier.

  • It helps skin to heal faster from damage or dehydration.

  • Lovely for skin rejuvenation because it boosts collagen and elastin.

  • Avocado is rich in potassium, known as the youth mineral, because it's a mineral that we produce less of as we age.

  • It gives a mild UV protection. I wouldn't use it instead of sun cream, but it provides a slight natural sun protection factor, a lovely addition to facial oils.

  • Avocado oil gives deep hydration, and it speeds up the growth and repair of skin cells.

How to use avocado oil in your treatments.

Rejuvenating Avocado Body Oil.

Avocado Oil is thick, and used by itself, it's quite sticky and hard to work with. But combine it with Sweet Almond Oil, which is much lighter, and also has skin nourishing and rejuvenating properties, and you have the perfect mix.

Combine half-and-half Avocado Oil and Sweet Almond Oil for a full body massage. It makes the massage feel even more amazing! Because of its moisturising, anti-inflammatory, and skin rejuvenating properties, the client's skin will feel wonderful for days afterwards!

Mini Rejuvenating Facial

This mix of 50:50 Avocado and Sweet Almond Oil is just as nice, and as effective for  a mini facial rejuvenation treatment.

Apply it to the face using light, upwards and outward strokes.

A basic facial massage is fine, so if you haven’t trained in beauty or facial treatments, just use the basic routine that you learned in your massage course.

Luxurious Avocado Hair Mask

Avocado oil, either alone or in combination with another natural vegetable oil, is lovely as a hair mask. You could offer it as an upgrade to massage or reflexology.

Imagine a scalp massage with warm, fragrant oil just before a treatment.

How to give a hair mask upgrade.

  1. Let the client know that their hair will be oily after this upgrade, it won't suit someone who needs to look smart after the treatment.

  2. Place some old towelling on the pillow.

  3. Warm the oil slightly by placing it, in a glass container, into warm water and letting it sit while you do a consultation. A glass bottle in a mug of warm water is perfect.

  4. Check the temperature of the oil before using it for your client

  5. Gently massage the oil into the hair.

  6. Wrap the client's hair in a warm towel and give your main treatment as normal.

  7. Advise the client to leave the oil in overnight if possible, or at least for a few hours.

  8. They should put shampoo into dry hair, then add water. Otherwise, it will be very difficult to remove.

This will benefit any hair type, leaving it feeling silky soft and nourished. It's particularly good for dry or brittle hair, and flaky scalps.

How much to charge?

I charge around 10  Euro to 15 Euro for any of these add on treatments. I'm aware that the rate you charge will depend to some degree on the general rates in your area. Charge enough to cover your extra costs while allowing for a decent profit.

Describe the benefits of your upgrades in a compelling way so clients are keen to try it and they’ll see that they are getting a great deal.

Remember, you are positioning yourself as a therapist who offers luxury treatments clients won't get from most therapists in your area.

How to promote your treatment upgrades?

  1. When a client calls to book a treatment, let them know you have lovely relaxing and rejuvenating treatments available for just €10 extra (or whatever you plan to charge) The natural oils you use boost collagen and elastin and their skin will look and feel amazing.

  2. Add your upgrades to your website

  3. Send email newsletters talking about the upgrades, the benefits, the relaxation effect.

  4. Add a PS to your general newsletters.

  5. Send texts or messages announcing your upgrades.

  6. Share 30-second videos and photos on social media.
